what is UP with all the negativity?

I was perusing the "My Real Wedding Pictures" and am dismayed that #1- votes are tallied and publicly displayed (seems mean-spirited) and #2- some of the comments on the 2008 winners were downright MEAN.  Am I alone in noticing that?  Yikes!  every idea is not for every bride, but my goodness, seems just flat out trashy to rain on another bride's parade.    /end rant.

Re: what is UP with all the negativity?

  • I have no idea what you're talking about. Link?

Also, how is it "mean-spirited" to publically display the number of votes in a contest? Should we avoid doing this in the next political election so that the losing candidates' feelings aren't hurt?

  • I thought it was mean-spirited because a bride who posted a low budget wedding was getting one "heart" votes, while the girls with more ample budgets and perfect photography were getting four and five "hearts".  The whole point of the Real Weddings section is to get ideas, or so I thought. I think emphasizing that a wedding is a contest of some sort is just the wrong approach.  As for the rude comments, they were on the "Bride's choice" selection, where people were saying snide, jealous things such as "must be nice to be rich", and "they must have cheated to win", etc.
  • There is nothing wrong with wanting people to be nice to each other... yes that is life, but that doesn't mean it's OK or that we shouldn't be saddened by it.
  • I kind of see what you are saying, but participation in Real Weddings is completely voluntary.  If negative feedback hurts your feelings, you shouldn't submit your photos.
  • Here's what the OP is talking about:

Yeah, I'm a little surprised they are calling that "Bride's Choice" for best wedding.  There's nothing unique about it at all.  But that's just MHO.
  • I'm with you, heels.  The details they show look fairly generic.  Seems like a perfectly nice wedding, but not a terribly spectacular one.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

Ditto. The wedding isn't ugly or anything, but no where NEAR the best one of 2008. I think it's very questionable that this one ended up the winner. Where are the details? Almost all of the pictures look like candids of the bride and groom taken with a point & shoot camera. I wouldn't call people "jealous" for thinking this way, either. It's not even a matter of different tastes, it's just that this wedding doesn't have any flair or style. Again, not a bad wedding, but still just very average.
