Amount of wine

I'm from a very small community in North MO.  When I say small I live in a town of 218 people.  I've recently became a wine drinker so we're going to have wine at the reception.  For anyone who has bought for their wedding...Did you have to buy a batch?   Which the place I asked was 28 bottles.  The lady told me they could not do half orders.  I'm not going to need nearly that much maybe half at best.  Any suggestions what to do?

Re: Amount of wine

  • Are you buying it and bringing it to the venue yourself?  If so, talk to liquor stores in the area.  Most will give you discounts for wine by the case (12 bottles), and you could take home whatever doesn't get opened.

Or is your venue supplying this batch?  Most of the venues I talked to stocked wine and would charge you for the number of bottles.  If this is your venue, check your contract.
  • We'll be suppling everything ourselves.  We both come from large "redneck" families so I'm sure that the biggest part of everyone will be drinking beer.  I had not thought about talking to liquor stores.  Thank you!
  • If you can supply it, you can go anywhere.  Costco and Sam's also have good prices on beer and wine, so check with them, too.

The best part is that you get to keep the leftovers.

  • One bottle of wine has about 4-5 servings in it.  So only buy as much wine as you think you will need.  You might even be able to find a liquor store who will let you return any unopened bottles
  • There are some pretty good wines available in boxes now.  We did Black Box - a white and a red.  Our guests were roughly 1/2 beer drinkers and 1/2 wine drinkers, and we just took the leftovers home.  Boxed wine stays fresh for quite a while.
