Disposable Cameras

Has anybody ever done this at a wedding or seen it done personally? We are estimating about 75 people to be at the wedding and only three children under the age of 10 who would insist on having their own. Each camera takes about 25 photos. How many should we get?

They are pretty pricey. So one for each person isn't really an option. Not to mention the cost to develop.

Thank you

Re: Disposable Cameras

  • We did them, one on each of 23 tables with perhaps three decent photos resulting.

I'd save the money to use on something else
  • I saw this at my cousin's wedding in the 90s.  She said afterwards most of the shots ended up being horrible because the cameras didn't work well in the low lighting or with the motion of dancing.  Honestly, in today's day and age, when so many people have quality digital cameras and cameras on their phones, it doesn't seem necessary.  I would save your money for something else, perhaps a photobooth.
  • Two words: genital pictures.

More words: Give 20 something guys an open bar and free reign with a disposable camera and you will get pictures you don't want. Every. Time.

They are not worth it.  Bad pics.  Some cameras end up not being used at all, some missing, the rest horrible pictures.  Save your money.
  • I agree with everyone else.  You might think about setting up a free photo-sharing website (say, Sutterfly or whatever), then letting your guests know the user-name and password (little cards on the tables?) so they can share their digital photos in the days after the wedding, and see the pics that everyone else took.   Once the photos are uploaded to Shutterfly, you can use them to make personalized albums, order prints, or whatever you want.

Also, a lot of your guests will share photos on Facebook.  We saw some really good ones in the days following the wedding:-)

  • I have seen on pinterest that there is an app. you can have guests download and then all the pics they take there come to you....sounds pretty sweet but I have not looked into yet...

  • Way to step back a decade or two! Why would this even be a consideration now that we have digital cameras and smart phones?

If I saw this at a wedding now I'd probably laugh and take a picture of it with my iphone.

  • I would skip these.  So many people have digital cameras, which will take better photos and cost you no money unless you want to order prints from them.

If you like the idea of kids running around with the cameras, make little gift bags for the kids and include them.  The last wedding I was at had disposable cameras (maybe just for the kids, I'm not sure), and this little girl came over and wanted to take a picture of our table.  I guess it was cute enough, but it was annoying to interrupt eating and conversations to pose for what would probably be a crappy picture.
  • Thank you everyone! I will just pick up a set of three for the flower girls.

  • When I first started planning I was considering doing this but the knotties talked me out of it quickly, fortunately! I was going to use WedPics but I found Wedding Turtle which is free, and guests who want to share pictures can upload their own pictures to the site pretty easily.  Wedding Turtle will send you free cards with your Wedding Turtle page info, but we printed free business cards through Vistaprint because we wanted them to be in our colors and a little cuter.  We'll put a couple on each table, and probably in the hotel bags so guests that take pictures over the weekend can add them to our site.  I have no idea if anyone will even use it, but since it was free I don't really care!
