Candles- Filled or unfilled?

This is probably a really silly question, but what are the pros and cons of having the filled votives or the unfilled votives? The filled ones look slightly more expensive, but other than that I can't tell a difference.

I've heard it said that the filled ones burn better but I'm very unconvinced thats the case -- I've been to plenty of weddings and never saw them go out. We bought separate votive candles because I intend to resell the votives after the wedding. (If you go this route, I hear a little cooking spray on the votive before you set the candle in and light helps them pop right out afterwards)
