Would wine be tacky with burgers or barbecue?

I want someone to be very honest. We are going for a simple wedding because we have a very small budget. We want to give people food that they like, not unidentifiable finger food. But we also want to have wine and beer for all of our fellow college guests. I don't see beer being strange, but what about wine? Does wine go with a cookout or barbecue dinner, or is that strange? Is wine too fancy?

Re: Would wine be tacky with burgers or barbecue?

  • It's not a typical choice and some people may prefer other beverages but it's not rude or strange to offer that.

With the exception of parties my younger friends throw (I'm the only one in my "age group" that actually enjoys wine, so it's pretty much only served if I BYO), I don't think I've ever been to any type of party, including BBQs that had beer and not wine.

The only way wine gets "tacky" is if it's served in those giant red plastic cups. Which I am so guilty of drinking it out of when we didn't have a clean glass in the house, lol.

  • Not tacky at all!  I think wine goes with everything, but I agree that serving it in red plastic cups is tacky, lol.

  • I love wine with hamburgers or ribs. You could also serve pitchers of sangria.

  • I don't understand how wine could even be tacky. If you're asking if it would be inappropriate, the answer is no.
  • I dislike beer (A LOT) and would be thrilled to have a glass of wine with a burger. I don't think it's tacky. :)

  • Wine actually goes really well with both burgers and barbecue.  In fact, while beer may seem like the obvious choice, red wine brings out the flavor of both the meat and the barbecue sauce much better.  Those that choose to drink beer won't mind having wine present, and those that choose to drink wine will be thrilled to have the option!

  • I love a glass of red wine with a burger.  Not tacky at all, wine is way better choice than beer in my opinion... not everyone likes beer!  If you are worried about wine being "too fancy" for a BBQ- don't
  • wine is definitely better than beer to many people. I think it's an excellent idea to have both.
  • I was also going to suggest the sangria...there is a white sangria also that if you are getting married in the summer has peaches, cherries and citrus... so YUM and so refreshing!

Wine is never in bad taste...just work on picking some that match to food and you will do fine :-)
  • Thankyou SO much for the help, everyone!!
