After reception Dance Party.. thing

During the Reception we dont expect alot of the people to stay the whole time and we have the hall until 11pm. We are inviting alot of our friends from high school we are still close with and we want to use the big dance floor!! We were thinking after most of the elders leave ( most of the elders on my side love to dance so they will probably stay) we want to really kick of the dancing. Does this sound like something that would work? Would it be to complicated?

I guess I'm what you call an "elder".  I was MOB in July and MOG three years ago.  And do you know who was non-stop on the dance floor during DD's wedding?  Me, DH, our friends, and my 88 year old dad.

Don't assume that "elders" won't want to dance.  At DDs wedding, they did the WP announcement and then DD and SIL had their first dance.  We all then went to dinner.  After dinner, the did the cake cutting, and then invited everyone to watch the father/daughter dance and the mother/son dance.  Then the floor was opened for dancing.

Just open the dance floor.  If people want to dance, they will.  If they don't they won't.  But not opening the dance floor will guarantee that guests will leave early.

At most weddings, the dance floor gets opened after dinner.  People who want to dance stick around and do so, people who aren't interested will leave shortly after, regardless of age.  I'm not really seeing how your situation is different...

Are you talking about transitioning from music that the older folks will find appropriate to music that they might not be comfortable with? 

At one wedding we went to, the DJ played more wedding dance type music that was appropriate for kids & older guests for most of the wedding.  Once it was just the 20-something crowd left, he switched to rock and club music and kept the crowd going despite the smaller size.

True you never know whos going to want to dance. But I am worried about music the family will find appropriate. My side of the family listens and sings along to everything. But FI's side, they are a little more old fashioned. But I guess what I can do is after the meal and cake and blah blah blah, we could open up the dance floor with dancing, but somewhat modest music. And then when the crowd has gone down, we could pump up the music! ;)
