Wearing my dress for my 2nd reception

Hey all!  I'm getting married in August in my hometown, which is 7 hrs from where my fiance and I live now.  We're planning a second reception here for the people who can't make the trip.  My question is, would it be weird or inappropriate to wear my wedding dress to the second reception?  I would love to get an extra day out of it, and possibly make the reception seem a bit more formal, but I don't want it to look cheesy either.  Any ideas?

  • I'd say that its overkill. If you are going to have pictures, then I think its enough to display them. Wear something cute and comfortable so you can have fun mingling with your guests..

  • I would think that wearing it again would be a bit much.

  • I don't think it's overkill, but now I am wondering. I will have a second reception as well but in another country. Hm I wonder if I should just find a nice dress instead.
  • I would say no to the dress a second time, but possibly a second dress? Not necessarily a second wedding dress per se. But just a nice fitting dress to make you feel special on your (second) day!
  • I'd find it very AW-ish.  Get a different dress (not big wedding dress) and have pictures of the ceremony.

  • its a party celebrating your marriage, not a wedding. i wouldn't wear a wedding dress, i think it would look really silly. find a fun dress to wear thats a little less formal :)

  • If you want to wear your dress again, wear it.  You only do this once so you should just do it the way that makes you happy.

  • I'd find it a little weird.  We're having an at-home reception, and I'm planning on finding a shorter white dress to wear for that.  I do plan on wearing my headpiece (a hat with a short veil on the back) at the AHR, though.  We're hoping to have the ceremony video edited by then so we can show it at the beginning of the reception.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Thanks for the advice ladies!  I think I will just look for a simple, comfortable dress to wear.  Besides, I don't think my hubby/ his groomsmen will want to bother with tuxes and what not.  Thanks again!
  • wear it twice. you spend that much money, why not get use out of it. I would think I will love my dress so much that I will be sad not to wear it more than once.
