what to put for decorations on tables

I was thinking about not putting real flowers on the tables to save on money and i really don't like floating candles. My wedding is in the fall so on each end of the tables i am having little glass bowls filled with fall colored hersey kisses. But I'm not sure what to do for the middle of the tables. We have some glass fish bowl looking things that we could put 1 gerbera daisy in water, but then i was not sure if i wanted to use flowers. help :)

Re: what to put for decorations on tables

  • Why not put a goldfish in each bowl? Then let the guests take them home?

Or, you could look for interesting branches that would fit entirely inside the bowl, (or break them up to fit) keep them natural or sprayed to match in your colors. If you want to add sparkle, you could spray with lacquer and sprinkle some sort of glitter on them. Get some autumn leaves, either real or silk, and place them around the branch inside the bowl. If you are having an evening wedding, you could put battery operated tealights in the bottom, maybe in an opaque votive holder.

I'm sure others have better ideas.

    Good luck.
  • We had some tables with fake flowers (no they didnt look real but they spruced up the table and didn't make anyone sneeze and I got to keep them) Other tables had rocks and candles on a decorative plate.
  • Fall leaves instead of rose petals.

Candles, any size, shape, or form.

    Lanterns, luminarias.

Potted plants or seasonal potted flowers (mums, daisies...)

Bowls, vases, or baskets full of fruit.  Maybe fall fruits like apples, pears, or some of those little decorative squashes.  ( I have also seen and done some awesome looking arrangements with just greenery, and apples, sometimes with other fuits and berries.)

Grapevines, with real or artificial grapes.

Baskets full of loaves of various breads.  Either to eat, or for decoration only. It might looked cool combined with the grapes/grapevine, bottles of wine, and some gourmet cheeses (or "Baby bells") mixed in (call it a combo appetizer/centerpieces, lol).

  • Since its a fall wedding you could do what my friend did. She used pumkins and gords.

<div>What an amazing idea. I love it! And it will be much cheaper then flowers, I think everything is cheaper then flowers. It amazes me how expensive they are.</div>
  • Don't do live fish in centerpieces, it's a very, very bad idea.  Otherwise, I think anything else that's been suggested already would look lovely.  There's a Fall Weddings board under "Wedding Theme Boards" on the left sidebar, the ladies there might have some good ideas.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I'm also getting married in the fall, and didn't want flowers for centerpieces.  So we are doing hurricane vases filled with apples to go with the fall theme.
  • The apple idea is fantastic, but in addition to the apples you would want to get a container that you could put water in.  Cut out the center of the apples and place candles in them, line the container with plastic and around the outer edges place fall leaves or something more decorative.  This table setting was at my aunts thanksgiving dinner and it was beautiful, classic but simple.
