How much candy?

I'm new to this particular board and looked through the past couple of pages before posting this but forgive me if it's been discussed lately.

I'm trying to see if a candy buffet is possible on my budget and wanted to find out from those who've had it before....how many varities did you have and how much of each item did you have for the guests?

Re: How much candy?

  • Sorry, I should have mentioned that we're looking at about 100ppl for the reception.
  • Estimate 1/2 pound per person
  • And how many different kinds of candy would be recommended?
  • Your guests will fill the containers they're given, so find out how much that is and give it as a guide.  As for varieties, that's your call, but I would say at least three, and make sure they're different enough to satisfy picky people.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

I had 7 different kinds of candy in approximately 10containers.  I had 112 people (was expecting more) and had about 70 lbs. and it was wayyyyy too much.  I disagree with 1/2 lb. per person and think 1/4 lb. is more accurate.  Take it from someone who still has a trunk full of candy.

    Here's a pic of mine:

  • We did a candy buffet, but it was for about 280 people.

My advice is to not go by pounds per person.  I think its better to pick out the containers first-get enough to make your table look nice and full.  Then pick different varieties of candy and fill what you have.  To me, it was more important to have a visually good looking spread.  And obviously, get a good amount so you don't run out super quick.  Ours was VERY popular & people loved it!!

That being said...we found out we needed way more than we would have thought.  I'd say we had about 10-15 varieties of candy ranging from 1 pound - 5 pounds for each kind.  Some candy is bigger or shaped differently as well as your containers.

Here is one pix of mine...more in bio.  Good luck!
