Kids Table

I am going to have a handful of kids at my reception. I'm not a fan of kids at weddings though. Don't get me wrong, I love the kids in my wedding, I just hate the madness they create at weddings sometimes. (i've literally had to save 2 cakes at friends weddings from wild children playing around and UNDER the table).

At the venue i am seriously considering have the wedding at is a great area where I thought I could put a kids table and the coordinator was awesome enough to say they'll create a little kid buffet (Adults are getting a sit down meal) for them at no extra charge! Plus we'll put some coloring books out, crayons, etc to keep them entertained.

Do you think this is ok or am I taking away from the parents?

Re: Kids Table

  • I was going to have kids at my wedding but my FMIL reminded me that a lot of adults like attending "grown-up" activities and not having to worry about the kids. If you are set on including the kids I personally think it's a great idea what you've come up with. You are including the kids but also giving the adults time and space to enjoy themselves and not have to worry about watching their kid every second.

  • The kids need to have dinner with their parents for a variety of reasons.  First, I'm sure most parents don't want their young children seated away from them during mealtime.  Second, if you think having them threatening the cake is bad just sit all of them together and see what happens to manners and proper eating.  When kids are together like that, they play with their food and entertain each other.

I'm a big fan of the kids table after dinner and think that would be a great idea.
  • How old are the kids?  And how many is a handful?  I see both sides of the argument, but I think I am going to have a "kids table" for the 7 or 8 kids at my wedding.  The youngest kid will be 8, and her older siblings will be at the table as well, so their parents don't mind having them at a different table (not to mention, they will be drinking and may be holding adult conversations at the table that the kids shouldn't be a part of anyway).
