Wedding Band (Jewelry) Advice

FI & I went to look at bands this weekend and I think I've found a ring that I really like. The downside? Of course the band I fell in love with is our whole wedding band budget combined.Anyone else run into this problem? So here's the deal - do I settle for something less expensive & that I don't love as much? The way FI & I percieve it is, although it's out of budget, this symbolizes something which will last forever & far beyond the wedding day, so it's value is immeasurable. We get the ring & cutback elsewhere. We are thinking of waiting until Christmastime for any potential jewelry sales. In the meantime I'm also looking for something comparable.

cut back elsewhere... so long as it doesn't totally strap you. It is something you have for a long time after. You can look for a more affordable alternative for him - guys rings can be very affordable.

Can you PIP?  Is it super unique?  If not, you might be able to find something almost identical for a lower price. If it is very unique and you love it, then yes, I'd say splurge and go for it.  Sam is right, you'll be looking at it every day for the rest of your life.

Sam & delicate, you're right. That's why I'm so torn & think we should just go through with it. Our ring budget is very small to begin with, although it is do-able.Here's a PIP:It's the only one I've found so far that looked flawless with my e-ring & I'm having difficulty finding something similar. We could go the custom route but I'm afraid in th end that would just be more expensive.

You mentioned custom might be too expensive, but that's what Fi did- I found a ring I liked on Blue Nile, he took it to the jeweler who did my e-ring.  The guy was able to match the price but added more bling.  Use it to your advantage.

    Ask for a discount.

Thats a pretty standard wedding band - I would shop around still or go the custom route. But was your budget realistic to begin with?

I agree with PPs about looking into having it made.  My jewlery (David Jay in Warrington) does a lot of that and works based on people's budgets so it could be possible. I was in the same position as you though - I fell in love with a Hearts of Fire eternity band that was waaaay out of my budget and after that none that I tried on even compared.  We ended up getting it and cut back somewhere else in the budget.  To me, it was 100% worth is because I love the ring so much and that is pretty important for something that I plan to wear the rest of my life!

I agree with PPs.  If you can do it, get the ring.  You'll have it forever and it could be a major regret if you don't.  If the jeweler wasn't willing to negotiate, then I definately suggest looking elsewhere or going the custom route.  Where did you find it?  I know my jeweler does custom work or may even be able to get that one for a better price.
