Small party rather then reception?

So we want to keep it low key and really save our money for a house, rather then spend it on a wedding. Any ideas for a small party or gathering of our closest family instead of a traditional reception? Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated!

Re: Small party rather then reception?

  • rent out a restaurant for the small party. cater it at someone's house.
in other words-you still provide food (as it's still a reception no matter what the size) but you can limit the length, what's served and for how many.

  • A reception can be anything.  As long as you host your guests, it is a reception.  Depending on the number of guests, you could do cake and punch, dinner at a restaurant, a back yard BBQ, Dave & Busters, whatever.
  • Do you mean you'd invite  a different set of people to the ceremony than to  the reception?

Everyone invited to the ceremony must be invited to this "small party" reception. As PPs have said, you can make a reception whatever you want it to be... even cake & punch (so long as it is not during a meal-time), but everyone must be hosted for everything.
