Rainbow Wedding Ideas

I am struggling with ideas for table decorations and reception ideas. I am having my girls all in the same dress but each one in a different color. the are brighter colors like cobalt blue, shamrock green, red, sunshine yellow, pink, and a brigher purple. I want to incorporate these colors at the reception without it looking like gaudy. Any ideas or tips would be great!

Re: Rainbow Wedding Ideas

  • Many many years ago I attended a wedding where the BM's were in pastel rainbow colors and it was quite lovely. I googled rainbow colored weddings:

This can be done well, or, as some of the google pics show, can be an awful busy mess.

I would keep your colors as small accents and use white linens.  You would want to keep the colors to very small "pops" here and there.  If you use a lot of each color I think you are going to have a very, um,  "busy" (that translates to gaudy) look.
  • You don't describe the style of your wedding, so assisting is tough. If it's more casual, then you probably can get away with incorporating more colors into the tablescapes and decor. If it's more formal, you may want a more muted look.

I'd go with white table covers for sure, and probably white napkins as well. It's possible you might be able to find a muted print fabric with most of the colors you are using for table runners to pick up the colors that way. If it were me though, if you do that, I'd probably use all white flowers, with maybe a very small "pop" here and there of some of the other colors.

If you are not having flowers, then maybe you could find some inexpensive glass cylinders and use colored floating candles, or insert flowers in the bottom as well.
Another thought would be wooden candlesticks, each painted in one of the colors you are including in your decor. Maybe have 2-3 of varying heights and varying colors on top of the table..........but you'd want ALL the candles to be white or it would be too busy.

This place sells them pretty inexpensively, found by googling "wooden candlesticks"

  • You could do white tablecloths and accent with a different color for each table (or perhaps 2 tables of each color depending on the number of tables). By accent, I mean centerpieces could be that specific color and maybe napkins or placecards. Maybe a collection of colored glass vases with candles in them? Or gerbera daisies in a pretty white vase (I suggest this because they aren't a super-pricy flower but come in many colors and are very cheerful).

  • Thank you for the ideas so far... it is going to be more of a casual wedding than a formal wedding. we are having round tables and doing white table clothes for them. center peices are going to be mason jars with flowers in the bottom and a votive cup sitting on top with a white candle in it, we are also planning on tieing bows around the neck of the far with rope, or twine. my mom is doing all of the flowers from her own garden and we are going to put them into old clear vases. I am not sure what to do with the napkins, having each table be a different color? or just leave them white and have the center pecies be the pop of color? I think if spaced and done right having each table with a different color may look pretty
  • i went to a reception where all the tables had white  tableclotes and linen, but the centerpieces were the wedding colors and it was very pretty.
