Cocktail Style Wedding- Enough Food?

My fiance and I always think the cocktail hour is the best part of any wedding, so we wanted to have our whole wedding have that feel. I want the food to be heavy enough to constitute a meal without the feel of a buffet. So, I collaborated with my caterer and came up with the following menu. Does this seem ok to people? Is there anything you would want that isn't here? And, mostly, Is this enough food so that I don't have to make that notation "cocktail reception" on the menu? (i'm going to copy and paste from my proposal b/c I'm lazy)

  • sounds good to me..

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I think since they are stations you get away with not saying cocktail reception.  Sounds yummy!

Ditto!  I think the stations make it a full meal.  Stations are my favorite type of wedding meal and your menu sounds delish!

  • That sounds yummy!

I would just make sure that there are plenty of tall tables. I have had the grilled cheese app, and it is a two handed food, which doesn't leave any hands to hold your drink.

It sounds yummy, though very heavy on the seafood which some people don't like and others can't eat. But what you are serving is definitely plenty of food and people can easily make a meal from. Are there any non-seafood options you can add at all?

Curious  but if someone didn't want secret sauce or banana ketchup on the burger option could they get those without, and would there be regular ketchup available for those who are not as adventurous?
  • Thank you all! I appreciate the responses. Lasairiona, I will keep the seafood thing in mind. I was hoping the burger, soup, short ribs, pasta and pizza would make up for it but I will definitely get a few more opinions. My fiance and I actually aren't big seafood eaters... only shellfish and some sushi really. The lobster is also easy to get around in the mac n. cheese but maybe I will have them do a few plain versions for my junior BMs and anyone else. I also believe the burgers are made to order. Thanks again!
  • my DH does sliderd action station.  You can choose from beef, veggie, chicken or mahi.  Then he has a ton of different condiments.  For example ket, must, mayo, secret sauce, hot sauce, pickles, relish, onions, grilled pineapple (really good with the mahi) to name a few.

Not that I think there is anything wrong with just the beef sliders, but it is a cool action station that has something for most people.

  • Something else to keep in mind is that if anyone does have a shellfish allergy, they cannot just pick out the seafood and eat everything else that it is served with. If you allow plainer versions for the kids, you need to have that option for adults as well. If you provide plain versions of anything for the kids, then adults who are not as adventurous need the same options.
