cake ideas with a southern flare

I am seriously considering instead of have the traditional tiered wedding cake, i want to have several different flavor 2 layer round cakes, pound cakes, & pies (all homemade). We would cut into a cake that me & my fiance would love & have a smaller cake that would be the top layer for our cake topper. I am thinking about setting all these cakes on a table at different heights & have the "top layer" cake set much higher in the middle & twds the back. any brides do this? what were the problems that you had? and how was the reaction from your guests?

I think this sounds really fun!! My fiance and I are planning something similar! Neither of us really like cake, but we still want to do a cake cutting so we will have a small cake to cut and a Venetian style dessert bar for our guests to select from, cake, Brownies, pies, cannolis, and cheesecake! I love the idea of giving people options!!

Totally fine. My brother had about ten regular sized chocolate kahlua cakes made by my mom (not that SHE enjoyed baking ten cakes the day of the wedding, but I digress) instead of a traditional tiered cake. The guests loved it because it was delicious. Not one person complained about the presentation.
