Where to sit estranged family members

We have been speaking to my dad's mom and her boyfriend for the past year but before that we didn't see them for something around 16 years. 

My mom's family doesn't get along with them.

Where do I seat them? I have tables of 8 but we are seating 6 or 7 at each.

We have a similar situation where FI's family doesn't speak to his ex-stepfather.  I'm thinking that I'm going to sit him with some of my family members or family friends.  

I'd seat them far away from the people they don't get along with, and maybe with people you know are social and would be welcoming of them.
