AHR almost 2 months later? WDYT??

So I have been worried about the AHR and making it fun, and really giving people a reason to come out to just a reception. (Getting married in FL with only close family)

Another knottie on here gave me a great idea, a NYE reception.  We are getting married Nov 6th , followed by the honeymoon and getting back to MO the week before Thanksgiving.  Do you think it would be weird to have the wedding reception on NYE??

  • I don't think it would be weird to have it on NYE, but a lot of people might not show up.  I personally do not like going out because of all the drunk people.
  • Meh, I'm thinking as a guest, I wouldn't be really keen on the idea.  I didn't get invited to the wedding but you want me to give up my NYE to celebrate your nuptials?  I'd rather give up a regular Saturday to do this than a holiday.

  • I feel like that is too late for an AHR on a holiday.  Consider having it in early December instead or just throwing a big NYE or Christmas party if it needs to be during the holidays.
  • I think you should have it earlier, closer to when you get back from the honeymoon.

  • I'd have it closer to when you get back also.  NYE is a big holiday for us and I wouldn't be thrilled to give up my plans to go out with friends and go to an AHR instead.

    this, exactly.
  • I'm having a January 2nd wedding and we had a fifty percent decline rate because it's a holiday weekend.  I would suggest doing it closer to when you get back in town.
