Need a catchy theme name for Wedding

I couldn't find the proper place to post this so I put it on here.

We're getting married on a River Boat in July. I want to go Nautical but I need more ideas that not only are creative but when a guest hears it there is no doubt what we are going for.

I want to do navy dresses, because the boat is so old I want to add a touch of age to this so my girls are wearing wide brimmed hads like in the movie titanic or in pic at bottom. My fiance is wearing military army blues and his guys will wear suits to match him. I'm doing Hemp rope or Nautical rope down the isle on the chairs. And were doing driftwood centerpieces were making ourselves. Oh and our invititations are bording pass that look original to the boat. I'll add photos to help inspire please fill free to post as many that come to mind because yours may help me come up with one.

Re: Need a catchy theme name for Wedding

  • I'm not sure why your guests need to know what theme you're "going for" in a phrase; it should speak for itself when they arrive.

They'll know from the formality of your invitations and venue how they should dress if that's the concern.

I'm getting a "charming river cruise" vibe from everything if that helps.
  • The first thing that came to my mind was "Riverboat Romance" but that is probably ridiculous.
  • I think the thing about theme names is that they always end up sounding a little like a Senior Prom (Riverboat Romance comes perilously close to Stairway to Heaven or Midnight in Paris). I'd just make sure to put all the info on your website and include as much of your theme as you want to in that and all of your paper stuff.

If you're using it as shorthand just to describe the vibe to family members and vendors, I think vintage nautical or charming riverboat cruise come closest.

For the record, my wedding does have a tag-line of sorts. We're getting married the Saturday before the Presidential election this year, and we made our STDs and Website look a little campaign-y. Our slogan is "Moving Forward. Together."

  • Same question as NOLA.  If people ask, you can describe what you're thinking--I like nautical/vintage (and it sounds lovely)--but you don't really need to come up with a theme name.

  • I believe by doing the boarding pass invitations, you are already 'branding' your wedding. If you are doing a wedding website you can expand on this. I dont see a way in which you could give a title to your theme with out going way of the prom theme as mentioned. But note to poster, this looks like an amazing theme and totally fun. Dont add cheese with a title, let your again 'branding' come out thru stationary and decor.

Having a theme name really goes with the riverboat. They have events there all the time and I'm setting it up like its an event. they do Murder Mystery Dinner, Irish Pud Night Dancing, Night at the Theater Perfomance, and "Riverboat Romance" sounds like what I'm going for thank you. The boarding tickets will be for the Riverboat Romance, the signs will be for the Riverboat Romance, and the decor will enhance that. I like that one.

</div><div>Thanks! Hilariously enough, we decided on that slogan about 3 days before the first Obama campaign stop where we learned that the Obama tagline was going to be "Forward." Since we already had the design going, we just went with it. I was actually really surprised how many people like it. </div><div>
