Decorating large space w/ small budget

Hey all! I'm hoping for some advice on how to decorate my reception venue. It's a very large room with VERY high ceilings. The colors in the room are sort of on the dark side, woods and earth tones, some dark blues and golds. Which admittedly doesn't go well with my pink/orange/yellow color scheme. I've been wanting to put up paper lanterns all around, but I'm afraid I may not be able to with those high ceilings. Any advice?

I'd go for paper lanterns, definitely.  Perhaps you can find some Christmas lights as well?

Paper lanterns would be lovely.  Hang them at different levels so the space gets filled.

Christmas lights would be nice too.

I would suggest lighting if that fits in your budget - That can completely transform a room with just that one element

High ceilings are a perfect opportunity to create tall centerpieces. Buy tall vases for the tables and make cascading floral arrangements (trust me, these can be done on the smallest of budgets) or fill with branches of some sort. Decorate the tables with elegance to draw the eyes towards the table and then upward. If you can, hang lanterns or drape christmas lights coming down from the center to the walls. Brighten up the room with candles. You want to draw the eyes toward the center and up, and away from the walls which clash with your color scheme.
