Cocktail Reception Timeline

Ok... So I'm doing a cocktail/hors d'oeuvres reception in the evening, and am wondering if this timeline looks good, or if anything should be shortened/lengthened etc. And yes, I'm planning on having enough food so that no one goes hungry (I know it's starting around dinner time). The guest list is only around 40 people.

6:30 - 7 - Ceremony
7 - 7:15 - Receiving Line
7:15 - 7:30 - Champagne Toast (the only time I can assure everyone will be together and paying attention - during this time the venue will be switching over from ceremony - reception decor)
7:30 - midnight - Reception (hors d'oeuvres, dessert table, wine and beer hosted, live band)

We have to be cleaned up and outta there by 1 am.

Whaddya think?

Re: Cocktail Reception Timeline

  • Sounds great.  It's similar to the timeline we used for our cocktail reception and I thought it worked just fine.

  • That looks great. How are you putting that on your invitation. We are struggling to figure out wording for our invitation. We are having a destination wedding and doing a cocktail and hors d'oeuvres reception only, we are thinking of starting it at 630 or 7 and we want to make it clear that we aren't serving a dinner.
  • I haven't figured out the wording yet, but was thinking of simply saying after the ceremony details "Cocktail reception to follow" since we're doing everything at the same location.

Although we're also doing a very small wedding, so pretty much everyone already knows going into it that we aren't serving dinner...
