Re: S'mores confusion

  • I would skip the favors even if you weren't on a tight budget. Yes, it's cute and probably really yummy, but it's totally worthless. The favor to the guest is the reception. Skip the favors and make the liquor a bit better, add more to dinner, or hire a DJ. Favors are completely unnecessary and at all the weddings I've been to they're usually just left on the table for the bride and groom to haul home.

  • I agree with Veggie. For my cousin's wedding, my mom spent a ton of time crocheting these cute little favor boxes. As the reception was ending, she was really hurt when she saw a bunch of them going into the trash. So for my wedding, she keeps trying to come up with ideas and remind her not to spend a ton of time on them, because they'll probably just get tossed!

But if you really want to do something smores related, why not do smores or smores cupcakes as the dessert instead of cake? That way they're more likely to get eaten than if they're something the guest needs to take home. Or maybe a late night snack of smores? I think that would be yummy at like 11pm when I've been dancing and drinking all night ;-)

  • Skip the favors. A s'more buffet sounds yummy but really messy.  People may stay away from it because they don't want to ruin their clothes.

  • I think the buffet would be a little messy for guests.  Just do individual favors of smores with that clear wrapping and have the cracker, chocolate and marshmellow in each, tied off with a ribbon.. go to sams club and get the ingredients in bulk or something, it shouldn't be too much, depending on how many you have to make.
  • We did cupcakes as favors, and it was awesome. We didn't have a wedding cake -- we did chocolate fondue with fruit and marshmallows and stuff for dipping.  But we know a LOT of people like cake, so we did the cupcake favors (in favor boxes, one set at each place setting) so people could either eat their cupcake for dessert instead of the fondue, or take the cupcakes home.

I thought it worked really well....AND for us, it was MUCH less expensive than a big wedding cake.  We got 125 cupcakes in 4 diffferent flavors, boxed and delivered to our venue for about $1 per cupcake.

  • We're doing a smores buffet because we are having an evening, outdoor reception and will have two fire pits going. I think it will be a lot of fun!
