jersey for guestbook

we are having a baseball jersey for our guests to sign at our reception. (We also have a guest book for those who don't want to sign the jersey) I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a good type of marker to use for the jersey signing. I know sometimes sharpie markers can bleed when you write on fabric with them and i don't want all the signatures smudged, but I don't want to buy a bunch to trial and I only have the 1 jersey that we bought for the signing and really can't afford to buy a spare to try a bunch of different markers on to see what works best. Any advice would be appreciated from others who have experience with this. thanks :)

Re: jersey for guestbook

  • We used craft fabric markers from Michael's.  We used a medium point tip (bullet tip, not chisel point) and it bled a little bit, but honestly it looks awesome.  You could go with a fine point or chisel tip, which might help too.

Also, I HIGHLY recommend getting a piece of foam core board and cutting it to fit the inside of the jersey, to put between the layers to prevent bleed through.  I had one, but the caterers who set up the hall forget to put it out, so the markers bled through to the front.  Now that we have the jersey mounted and framed, it's not a big deal because you can ONLY see the back, but I still know it's there:-(

  • Thanks! and thanks for the tip about the foam core board. We were trying to figure out what to put inside it,all we could think of was cardboard, and knew that would look REALLY tacky.
