As someone that is currently living in South Africa, I really like the fact that here anyone and everyone is invited to a wedding-- there are no such things as invitations [well, to Zulu weddings] and if someone is getting married the whole community is welcome. I love the sense of community that brings and I would like to make my reception similar-- except I don't want any hungry person that sees a buffet to come, but rather anyone and everyone who feels close enough to the bride and groom that wants to come to the wedding can come. The only issue is... receptions are the most expensive part. Stupid food costs! It is lame. So I was thinking of having a lunch reception [because those are cheaper, right?] and making it a classy yet casual [is this possible?] BBQ/In-N-Out reception. But how did people work this out with the "first dance" and whatnot? I honestly just cannot imagine dancing in the daytime [I know this is weird, but I always picture it at night].Did people who have a lunch reception have a DJ and dancing also? It wouldn't be a big deal if there was no dance party into the late night, considering my guy hates dancing [although all of our friends are party animals]. I still want it to be fun. And when do people leave? And is there anything for you to do for the rest of the day?
Can anyone give me a rough outline of what happened at your lunchtime reception? I may end up doing a lunchtime reception with only a handful of people anyway when I realize I need to ditch the community wedding idea and remember our [lack of] wedding budget.
Ideas? Thanks!
