Can we do only one choice for dinner?

Hello ladies!  We are having a very, very small DW wedding in Hawaii.  Once we return we're planning a hawaiian chic bash for all of our loved ones whom could not join us.
The menu will be Hawaiian, and of course we'd love to do the whole pig.

Can we have that as our only main course...or is it essential to have a second choice???

judge the non-traditional, pop their happy little wedding balloons... and sleep better tonight for you have made the world a better place.

  • Meat wise I would say it is ok to have only the pig but make sure you have a vegetarian option. This would help too if someone doesn't like the meat they can eat the vegetarian food.

We are only doing chicken and a vegetarian plate, we have about 40-50 guest :)
  • I think a hog roast is great and you wouldn't need another meat choice.  Just be sure to have vegetarian options for vegetarians or people who don't like pork.

Yes- I agree about the vegetarian option.  We will have a plethora of fruits, veggies and side dishes galore ;)

  • I"m not a vegetarian but a lot of my friends are and one of their biggest complaints is that when they are at weddings the vegetarian option is always just a bunch of sides and they're always annoyed that they don't get an actual vegetarian entre like a meat eater would.

I don't know how big of a deal this actually is, but just something to think about.
  • Have a vegetarian entree item. Don't make the vegetarians or non-pork people scrape together a meal from sides (however tasty they might be).

Here are some ideas for vegetarian Hawaiian dishes. You could do something like a vegetable stir-fry or big grilled veggie kabobs:

  • Have a veggie entree, not just a lot of veggie side dish options.  Meat eaters are getting a pig, the least you can do is offer the veggie eaters a main dish of their own.
  • With the Hawaiian theme, you may be able to offer something like tofu & veggie kabobs for the Vegetarians. Just make sure they are clearly marked as such if you do something like that so it is clear that it is a veggie dish. Someone could mistake the tofu for chicken if it's coated in BBQ sauce.  I eat a mostly vegetarian diet so I have experienced side dishes as meals and it's not fun.  We are serving chicken and veg lasagna as our entrees.

  • One meal choice is fine. When you have people over for dinner in your home, they are typically expected to eat the one meal choice you are serving, unless you're having a buffet.

Be aware that some people are not be able to eat pork due to religious reasons.
  • I don't think I would eat anything called PIG...but maybe ham hhehehehe
  • I think its fine. YOu know your crowd. I am allergic to pork, but if you have lots of fruit and veggies, I'd be happy.
