Does my color scheme match my reception venue?

I'm one of the first people to say that no one will notice the clashing carpet, or that no one will remember what kind of chairs you had, but now I'm having my own little nit-picky doubts.

My reception venue is a banquet room inside of a restaurant. It's incredibly gorgeous and elegant, BUT the more I think about the color scheme I've chosen, I wonder if it would go in such an elegant space. I imagine my tables draped with black linens, gold chargers, red cp's and ivory napkins. The chairs are gold Chiviari's with ivory pads (can't change the chairs, they come with the venue.) We might do sashes (idk what color) on the chairs but that's up in the air until I can see it in person because I haven't seen any good pics of Chiviaris' with sashes on Google. We're going for a dark romantic vibe, lots of candles, amber lighting...I want it to look like everyone is bathed in candle light.

Here's a pic of the room:

And here's a pic of what I kind of want my tables to look like:

But with a CP like in my siggy.
I guess I'm thinking that black linens will fade once the lights go down for the reception, or that they might be TOO dark and not have enough depth. Maybe too bland? My color scheme is ivory and black with gold accents. Red will only be incorporated throught the flowers. Does anyone have any suggestions, or does this sound okay? TIA!

ETA: I guess I should add that I was originally debating between black and champagne as one of my main colors, and ultimately chose black. Now I"m wondering if champagne would have been the better choice?

  • I love what your planning!  Truthfully, you don't need the chair sashes - I think it's perfect w/o them.

[QUOTE]I think the colors you've picked will look great in that room.  I'd have some votive candles on the tables to reflect some light and highlight the red flowers. If you are afraid that the black will be too much on teh tables, <strong>drape any accent tables in ivory or champagne.  (</strong>escort cards, gift table, etc).

I really like that idea. It will add some color without taking away from the look! And yes, I'm planning on tons of candles everywhere. Half the tables will have the flower cp's with votives and the other half will have candles with petals.
    Thanks!
  • And I found this pic of a Chivari with a sash and I didn't like it much either. Doesn't look "bad." I guess it's just too much for those chairs.

[QUOTE]Ditto, PP.  Adding chair sashes to that type of chair always seems odd to me.

I think it will be fine.  That was my second choice color scheme.  I ended up going wtih black/ivory/champagne.  I did all white flowers but I also considered doing champagne with the red flowers.
  • Okay, you sound like a good person to run this by since we have the same concern....

I really like your colors and I definitely think it fits with your reception hall; however, did you consider using champagne as an accent to make the black sort of glitter and come alive in place of the ivory? Not telling you to change your colors, because I honestly love the ones you have now, but I feel like pairing the two you wanted from the beginning may help create the dynamic deep romantic vibe you're looking for! Just an idea!

  • I have nothing helpful to add (PPs said it all).  I just wanted to say that I LOVE your venue.  Looks gorgeous!  I love bright, airy venues!

  • First of all let me just say how much I love your venue, very unique and gorgeous. I'm also jealous your venues comes with the Chivari chairs...score! lol. I think your colors will look fine. I saw a wedding with an Asian twist but similar colors set up and it was really elegant and the dark colors just made the reds pop even more. You're doing great.
  • The colors you've chosen are about as classic and elegant as you can get (ok, I confess, I used those same colors at my first wedding so I might be biased!). But I do honestly believe they're a truly elegant combination of colors. Stop worrying!

FWIW, I wouldn't put extra decor on Chiavari chairs--they're beautiful as they are.
  • I think gold organza runners would be very pretty or ivory.
You could use gold or red for the accent tables like PP said.  Still keeping it all tied together.
