Whimsical fall reception ideas?

I live in NY and I had the thought of putting together some type of pavillion  in the back woods of my fiancees parents land but by the time i pay for equipment and materials i could save the trouble and rent an area for a day, any suggestion?  Only been engaged for 2 weeks, just gathering ideas! :)

    I would be really wary about having a reception on private property.  There are a lot of insurance and liability issues, and you would have to rent EVERYTHING.

    This definitely would be an OK idea with a very small wedding of 20-30 guests. I don't think your fiancee's parents would want many more people than that in their home in case of inclement weather. Not to mention bathroom facilities...

    I'm not sure how chilly it gets in your area in the Fall evenings, but consider a day/afternoon wedding and reception if you are insistent on having it all outdoors. If it dips below 70 in the evenings, guests could get cold! 

    Look into golf courses, nature preserves/botanical gardens, and state parks as venues.

    Yeah I honestly didnt think of the facilities, and yeah. ><  i wanted a smalll wedding anyway. lol
