Favor Idea

My wedding has a vintage french theme. We are considering having our favors be french macaroons.

Does anyone know if they need to be refrigerated? One website I saw listed "yes" but I am pretty sure I have seen them in places where they aren't...

I would hate for our guests to get sick

Also, what do people think of this idea? love? hate?

If they get too warm, the filling can get a bit gummy.  If they are made too early and not stored properly, the cookie part can get stale.
But I like the idea. 
What about chocolates in the shape of a fleur de lis?

It all depends on the climate. If you are in a cool dry climate, and they aren't going to be out in the sun, then not really. But if you are in a humid climate it would be best. They go rancid very quickly, especially with heat and humidity. But oh so delish!
