Advice about linens for reception

My bridesmaid dresses are jade and the men are wearing black tuxes.
My flowers are chocolate orchids.  How do you choose the linens for the
reception: do you match with the flowers or the tuxes?  I'm thinking brown
table toppers with chocolate orchids and some jade gems around the table.
My friend says I should do black table toppers to match the black tuxes.
Any advice?

Re: Advice about linens for reception

  • I think it is odd to match linens to people's outfits.

Don't take into account their attire, just think about the reception as a separate thing and how you would like it to look.  IMO I think ivory tablecloth with a brown overlay would be nice.

  • I agree that you should pull in some ivory or white (whichever you're using). And I wouldn't do the chocolate colored flowers with brown linens either, it would be too much of one color and overall too dark. If it were me, I would do white/ivory table covers with a jade table runner and brown napkins, and then of course your centerpieces using the chocolate orchids. I wouldn't even try to tie in any black. Chances are the groom and the groomsmen will have their jackets off before long anyway. What color are their vests?
