Tacky First Dance?

We are thinking of using "Once Upon a Dream" from Disney's Sleeping Beauty. My fiancee and I both have a special place in our hearts for this movie, and the song lyrics fit us perfectly. We also love the elegant orchestra feel to the song, and think it would dance well.

But is having a song from a kids movie tacky?

Tacky means it's cheap, tasteless, offensive in some way, so no I definitely don't think it's tacky.  I don't know the song but if it's what you guys love, who cares what your MOH says?  It's your wedding song, not hers.

Not at all tacky.  An all out Sleeping Beauty theme would be NMS, but I think ways to incoroprate something in small ways like a song are great.

I'm not a fan of Disney stuff being used for weddings. Likely your MOH isn't either. But it's not something that would hurt or offend anyone, so it's absolutely fine to use it as your wedding song. Heck, I'm using a Metallica song and have already had several people wrinkle their noses at me, but it's not tacky or wrong for me to use it so I don't really give a crap what they say. And neither should you.

actually, I am using it correctly....  I only found one definition that included the word offensive, and it was far from the first option.

I wasn't saying YOU are using the word wrong, I'm saying your MOH is.  I don't see how a Disney song could be considered not tasteful, crass, vulgar, or tasteless.

Anyway....odds are pretty low that many of your guests would even know it's from a Disney movie anyway.

If you're really worried about it, find an instrumental version.  (If there's not one on the Sleeping Beauty soundtrack, look up the Tchaikovsky ballet, they have the same score.)  I'm using instrumental versions of various video game songs in our prelude and ceremony, and I'm pretty sure that the only people who will recognize the tunes are the ones who "get" it.

I think it's a beautiful song, but I'm a fan of classic Disney anway.  To echo the other ladies, who cares what anyone else thinks?  Chances are, many people will love it and think it's sweet.

DH and I danced to "So This Is Love" from Cinderella; not for the first dance, but it was still fine.  It's no ones decision but yours and your FI.

No it's not tacky. Use a song that will be meaningful to you and your FI not one that is pre-approved by your MOH.

I probably would start laughing (as a guest at your wedding) when this song comes on. The first thing to pop into my head is: "wow, she's really controlling this wedding, you know he had NO say in it" 

but thats just me.

Go for it!  You only get one first dance, and it be something that makes you and FI happy.  Mine was from Full House.  It was cheesy, but it was exactly what I always wanted.
