Subtle Hollywood/Oscar Themed Wedding

I want a hollywood/oscar type theme for my wedding, but I don't want it to be over the top in your face.  I don't want to post pictures of iconic romantic movie images and I don't want any "Movie Paraphenalia" like director's chairs or the like.  The venue we are most likely going to use is an old theatre called The Redmoor.  It's interior is this rich red and the building itself is art deco and they retained the old marquis out front.  Our colors are Navy Blue and a semi metalic dark gray (David's Bridal colors- Marine and Mercury). I love flowers but they will have to be fake so I might have some restrictions on color availability.  Also I love candles but they would have to be LED so in using them I might need some sort of candle holder that disguises the fact that its not real like a frosted votive.  I love pearls and crystals but not quite sure how to incorporate them without it feeling over the top.  Our budget is somewhat tight so we won't be able to spend alot on it either, so they need to be reasonable or DIY. I want a mixture of heights and many different table centerpiece ideas.  I definitely want more than one centerpiece style and possibly something different for each table, but a minimum of at least 2 table centerpieces.  I really rather not use the cake as a way to display the theme. I also like the idea of having a "red carpet" and possibly hiring a photographer to take photos of the guests as they enter the reception hall.  But this is all dependent on how much money we have for that. We however are only set on the colors any other items that I have mentioned we could leave or take. I just want it to be elegant and for our guests to know the theme without shouting it from the roof tops.

  • Is there a local film school?  You could hire students to be paparazzi style photographers as your guests enter.

LED style lights are less expensive at an electronics store than a decorating store.
Pick up dollar store column bud vases and metallic spray paint in your mercury grey.  Paint the vases yourself.   Add single rosebud for the center.  Place three frosted votives around the single vase for your centerpieces.

Another idea is to have a single lush bloom floating in low bowl with LED lights on the bottom of the bowl amidst those gemstones to hold flowers upright.  Warning...not all LED lights are submersible.
  • you can find a variety of vases at the dollar store in all different heights and widths.  i like hte idea of spray painting them in different colors to match your wedding colors. and i think your save the date should say something like

    COMING SOON
etc etc...will give people a little taste of the theme of your wedding

  • Me and my fiance are also getting married in a theater.  We designed our invitations to look like the Gone with the Wind movie poster, except we called it Going to Get Married and put our faces in it.  Our RSVP cards, which we are still working on, will look like movie tickets.

Obviously people will sit in movie seats and we will get married "on stage."

For centerpieces my fiance really wants to design old style movie posters, except with us in them.

Otherwise I don't have any other plans for working the theater in.  I don't want it to be tacky, but I do want to have fun with it, and I know that the centerpieces will be something me and my fiance will treasure.
