Anyone else doing table cakes?

I am considering doing table cakes as a centerpiece. I was at a wedding that did this, and I really liked it. My only thing is- I am wondering what else I can do to make the centerpiece more appealing. I am already planning on making really cute cake stands. Any other suggestions?

  • If you go to Google Images and do a search for wedding cake centerpieces, you'll get a lot of pictures to see what others have done.

I think if it's on a raised cake stand and decorated nicely, you wouldn't really need much else.  Some add a mirror under the cake stand and votives or tea lights, like this:

  • I'm doing centerpiece cakes and am making my own glass cake stands using plates and sundae dishes from the dollar store. I am putting a square piece of fabric under the stand for a pop of color and a couple of flowers on top of the cake.  HTH!

  • I'm doing centerpiece cakes.  I'm also having menus in frames, table numbers in frames and a med. height floral arrangement with them.

I like the idea of the square of paper under the cake stand, but you could add crystals, petals, candles....pretty much anything.  Also, another idea would be to use fresh flowers on top of the cakes.
  • I've seen leaves and birch bark scattered around the cake at a fall wedding. Just be careful if you do decide on fresh flowers on the cakes... some flowers like calla lillies are poisonous.
