old soul marrying a big kid

I love vintage, he loves Legos. My dress is 30's inspired, our "theme" (as it is) is vintage glam, colors are jewel tones and grey/silver. He's requested to make the table numbers out of legos, which I think is a cute idea. I wanted the centerpieces to be champagne glasses with ostrich feathers and cascading pearl necklaces. We're also doing side by side pictures where we recreate a picture from childhood. We have about ten each. I'm not sure if those are going on tables or on a separate table or what. I'm so confused about merging our styles, bringing everything together, and just...everything in general. I'm so not a planner. I want someone else to make choices for me and then just write checks. Unfortunately that kind of wedding planner isn't in the budget :)

  • I totally understand where you're coming from. DH is a Transformers nut and wanted to fit it into the wedding somehow.  We made a card box with Transformers as "guards" and the guys wore autobot and decipticon cufflinks. I suggest going with your theme but giving him subtle touches.

  • We're doing an ice cream sundae bar and the vendor is bringing in/setting up the tables about and hour and a half before the reception ends, so we won't have a cake table or a groom's cake. It's a good idea to separate the two a little bit though. I bet he'd have fun building a bride and groom or some other wedding related lego thing, maybe for the guest book table or something?

  • That's a great idea too! I totally forgot I have to make a card box and that would be on some table somewhere too.

  • oh- my parents bought us a little Lego bride and groom set when we got engaged and I'm making his boutonniere out of the groom. He's going to go to the lego store and custom make the little lego guys for the groomsmen boutonnieres.

  • Maybe he could make the table numbers out of legos in your colors?   That might work a little better.  I agree about the small touches though, or using them to decorate your ice cream sundae bar (which I think would look super-cute).

  • I talked to him this morning and he's going to build the card box out of Legos, and we'll put our childhood pictures on that table. He's all excited.
