Re: Reception order????

  • Can your venue planner or DJ help you with this?  That way you won't be so stressed.  Here is what we did:

    Cocktail hour
    Bride and groom announced/first dance
Welcome from Groom's parents (this could also be a blessing)
    Buffet opened/dinner
Cake/toasts (about an hour after buffet was opened)
Cake served - we didn't do any other dances but they could start here
    Dancing
Bouquet/garter toss - about hour after cake/2 hours after dinner
Last dance of the night for the guests
Bride and groom private last dance (loved this--highly recommend)
    Exit

  • I'm traditional and plan to follow a similar order to what stephiehall lists. I've received suggestions from several djs to do a 30-40 minute dance set and then stop to have dinner as a way to get people moving so they don't get too bored from sitting as they probably didn't do much except eat and drink during the cocktail hour.  It makes sense but I just feel it would be disruptive to stop dancing to eat and then go back to dancing although I've read this is being done at more weddings. I guess I am just old fashioned.
