Fun/Different Reception Idea's

We are looking to do something totally different-such as a roller skating, magic mountain or ice skating.  Does anyone else have any suggestions.  We want something fun and exciting, but still allow alcohol.  Appreciate

Re: Fun/Different Reception Idea's

  • Well, that depends on how you view fun & different.  But if you check out some birthday themes, sometimes that could give you ideas. I've seen pictures of Dr. Suess wedding theme & Candyland wedding theme before, maybe something more vintage like elvis/marilyn monroe stuff, or based on a specific time period.  Good Luck!

  • What about something like Dave & Busters or Game Works for your reception?  As a favor to the guests, you could give everyone a game card with a certain dollar amount on it for them to play games with.  Or a bowling alley?  I live in Indy and there's an old duckpin bowling alley downtown that is really cool and vintage and it's got a big area with a bar downstairs, I imagine something like that would be fun and different.  You could ask on your local board if people know of any local places in your area that might work.

  • Just look at various fun places that will host a private party.  If you take "wedding reception" out of the equation, it may be easier to find venues.  Your local board might have more ideas.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • We're doing our reception at a restaurant. It is a small restaurant and perfect for what we're doing. There is no facility use fee, like at other locations, usually $500. They already have a sound system and decent lighting, so we don't have to rent those things or compromise on that due to cost. Plus I think the level of service by the waitstaff will be superior to catering waitstaff. Good luck to you.
  • I looked into a few "unique" local places for my wedding ... retro bowling alley, a minor league baseball field, a pro hockey arena, an art museum and a science museum, bars and lounges, the local performing arts center, a play house, a "movie palace" (one those giant elaborate movie theaters from the early 20th century), rustic cabins and resorts, etc.

Unfortunately, none of them worked out, for various reasons. The science museum was my #1 pick :(

Talk to your local board - perhaps they can suggest a fun place for you.

  • Last year I went to a med school social that was held at the local children’s museum.  It’s really fun to see tall guys trying to crawl through kid-sized tunnels.

  • I can't really offer anything more than what the other posters have said but I just want to say I love, love, LOVE this idea! I think you're going to have so much fun.
