Favor question...

How do you determine how many favors to have on hand? Is the rule of thumb one per person, or do couples count as one? Any ideas?

Re: Favor question...

  • It really depends on the favor.

We did one per couple for our photo station favor. Each couple got 1 picture of themselves.

We also had small boxes of chocolates on the tables and there was one for each guest at their place setting.

  • We did edible favors and figured 1 for each guest.  We had 2 small bags of candy leftover after the wedding.
  • Edibles are one per person and non-edibles are one per couple. Favors are never required and guests will not miss them if they are not there. Even if you have edibles, they can and will be left behind, thus being a waste of money on your part. Save the money and use it elsewhere.
  • If it was a yummy edible favor, I wouldn't want to have to share with my date :-)  I didn't do favors, though.  I spent the money elsewhere, and I don't think any of my guests missed them.

This.  We did mini-champagne bottles and there was 1 for each couple.  And yes they were cute but I wish we had spent the money elsewhere.  I will always suggest doing a dessert bar, late night snack, candy buffet, etc. instead of favors.  Everyone loved the candy buffet.
  • I did gift bags so everyone got one!

and then i did a candy station

  • We're looking at doing some sort of candy favor for each person, and CD favors for each invite.
  • We did boxes of Jelly Bellys, 1 per guest.

Favors aren't mandatory. I only did them because I'm from an area where they're still kind of expected, and with the budget and package we had, the extra $200 we spent on them wouldn't have really gotten us any upgrades (We already had open bar, prime rib as an entree and a really bad @$$ spread for cocktail hour).

... but if there was a way we could have used the $200 to get a chocolate fountain/Viennese table at desert, I would have totally sunk the money into that instead (Our venue offered one as an upgrade, but it was going to cost way too much).
