Beach Theme...but not at the beach?

My FH and I both love the beach (and would've loved to have a destination wedding), but we decided to go traditional and get married at my family's church and have an indoor reception to assure that everyone we love will be able to attend.  My FH still thinks that we should do beach-themed things at the reception.  I'm trying to consider his idea, but I feel like it would just turn out looking tacky and out of place at an indoor reception.  Any suggestions on how to make this idea work while still looking classy, or do you think it's just not do-able?Thanks ladies!

I have a beach theme and am going for a more elegant look as well.  Add a lot of flowers to dress things up.  The centerpieces can still be elegant which will dress it up a lot.  I am going to have a kids area where it will be floaties and beach balls and what not and then the rest of the area will be decorated differently.

It is definitely possible...just have to get a little creative!

Not tacky at all. I catered a wedding that had a beach theme at a country club. It was beautiful. It wasn't SUPER beach themed though- had things like sand dollars and starfish in the centerpieces. We are on the coast too so that probably makes more sense than a beach themed wedding in, say, North Dakota.

I would try to do it more in your color scene with light blues and tans.

I think it could be beautiful! I agree, do it in colors and light accessories.... a starfish in the centerpiece, etc. If done correctly it will be far from tacky.

I love the whole idea with a Beach theme.  That's my theme.  I just bought white starfish and am going to have the florist use them in the bridesmaids' bouquets as well as the centerpieces.
