GROOM'S CAKE

ok so my thought is to do a grooms cake for my fiancee at our wedding. he's really into hockey and had always talked about proposing on the jumbotron at our local hockey teams game. that's not how it happened but the hockey team has always meant a lot to us. so my plan now is to do a small sheet cake and take pictures of us and the kids from previous games and kind of make a collage of them for the top, then have air brushed hockey pucks on the sides of it. and then my aunt is going to get hockey pucks signed by the team.

is this a good idea?

Re: GROOM'S CAKE

  • I don't see anything wrong with it.  I have never been to a wedding where there was  grooms cake but it could just be my area.

Another option is to surprise your groom with this cake at the rehearsal dinner, if you are having one.

  • Agreed with PP.

I've also never attended a wedding with a Groom's Cake.

If it means something to you and you think your FI will like it...then there's certainly no rule against it.
  • I surprised my H with a groom's cake at our rehearsal dinner.  I baked his favorite choc cake from scratch and put a Star Trek icon on top of it.  He loved it!  I would totally go for it, I sounds like your FI will love the cake!
  • Groom's cakes are pretty popular in my area (probably because it's a southern tradition).  My H's was a soccer stadium to celebrate his hobby.  The hockey cake sounds cute to me.
  • we didn't do a grooms cake...and to be honest, there was so much food and italian cookies at our reception that people barely ate our regular cake.

its a great idea (love hockey!), but just make sure that its appropraite at the wedding. like others have said, you can do this idea for the rehearsal dinner or other wedding-related parties.

Grooms' cakes are very popular in our area and generally reflect 1 or 2 interests of the groom.  A hockey themed cake sounds perfectly fine to me.
