Goldfish Centerpiece

Hey Everyone!
I've been sifting through picture after picture to find the right centerpeice for my reception tables, and have fallen in love with the idea of Goldfish centerpieces. I was wanting to dress it up with some flower petals around the bowl or something (laying on the table, not IN the bowl), but I'm just worried that it'll just be too small. I need to figure out what size bowl to use and how to decorate it so it looks just right. Has anyone done this before or has seen pictures that they thought worked well? There are some great pictures on google, but nothing that shows the whole table, so I really can't get a feel of how it fits. Thanks in advance for the advice!

Re: Goldfish Centerpiece

  • Honestly, have none of you thought about the fact that putting fish in tanks is usually for decorating purposes anyway?

People use horses in their weddings too. No difference in parading an animal around with a carriage attached to it backs. To each their own.

I think it's a cute idea. I'm wanting betas myself. I'm planning on borrowing them from the local pet store and just returning them when finished. So I don't have to worry about them being there too long or dying.

SDMILE - nice job on bringing back a 2 month old thread just to make a bunch of terrible excuses and justifications for doing something crappy.

Horses don't sit in the middle of your tables for 6 hours and then get flushed down a toilet after your wedding is over. Big difference.

Your local pet store is going to let you "borrow" fish? Good luck with that.
  • Horses also don't die around loud music.

You don't tap on a horse's glass bowl.

People don't drink horses when they get drunk.

I'm failing to see the relation here... pot stirrer.

It's not really a sick plan. I agree, you don't have to feed fish that often. Goldfish are really easy to maintain so keeping them afterwards, or giving away, shouldn't be a problem. Goldfish really don't have a large life capacity, so they'd die on their own anyways. I think it's a beautiful design. But I'm going to test it out before it happens. To see how long the fish last before they poop, die, etc.
  • I plan on using a centerpiece using goldfish with a vase about a 2 gallon size. Water should be around 70-72 degrees, could be a bit cooler or a bit warmer for fish. I'm using a submersable light (water proof)and putting colored clear stone to hide my light. 4-5 goldfish to my vase. I will donate my fish to the public schools or give back to pet store when finsihed. Around the base I intend to use smaller lights in a ring and moss to cover the ring with random roses around the moss. Perhaps a few colored stone to pick up color from the vase as well. Hope that helps
