DIY Centerpiece Question PIP

I found a picture of what I want to do for centerpieces but my wedding colors are black, white and a dark purple.  I wanted to alternate white and purple roses for the centerpieces on the black table cloths,  but of course real roses don't come in the dark purple that i'm looking for so I thought about using silk ones but I don't know about submerging silk flowers in water (I know nothing about flowers, real or fake).   Will the silk flowers be okay to submerge in water?  If not, does anyone have any other ideas of how I could pull of something like this using white and and dark purple colors?

Thanks!

  • Sorry I think I posted on the wrong board
  • Are you open to using flowers other than roses? There are some varieties of calla lilies that come in a deep purple - they're absolutely gorgeous and would work well in that type of centerpiece.

I'm honestly not sure about submerging silk flowers - I would think the effect might not be the same as real flowers, but I don't know for sure. Can you buy one or two just to try it out?
  • I would buy 1 from Michaels and test it out first.

  • I'm doing something very, very similar. The only thing I'm not doing is adding the water or the floating candle. I realized if the flower becomes loose and hits the flame things could be disastrous, and we are giving away our centerpieces to a member of each table (since honestly, what am I going to do with all of them?) and having to dump water out would be sort of a pain.

Everything else is the same concept. I did a mock up without pics and it turned out very nice.
  • I know Dahlia's also come in all variety of colors, and I have seen some bright purple and dark purple ones. They might work well in the display, unless they are too large, and I personally love their perfect petal patterns. I have seen ppl using silk flowers with that type of centerpiece on pinterest, it seems like when they did it they wrapped a wire with a weight around the bottom stem, which was then stuck into the marbles/rocks. If you browse pinterst for submerged centerpieces I'm sure you can find some reviews on using fake flowers- just keep in mind, they may not be any cheaper than real flowers...
