Wedding Reception Forum

my ideas- kind of long and PIP but I'd like opinions please!

Hello ladies!  We are planning a casual, laid back wedding in a barn for October 28.  We have no real colour scheme or theme picked out, but we are using fall colours in the bouquets and we are trying to keep things simple.

I'm a little concerned that guests will walk into the reception and think "this is it?"
Here are some ideas we ahve for the reception decor...

for outside the barn
.

having pictures frames with love quotes all throughout the barn so guests can wander around and read them if they don't want to dance. Will also have pictures of the WP and a little blurb about them
Meet the maids! In a little frame, post a picture of each girl and tell how you met & why you chose them to be in your wedding.

doing a chalkboard with important dates throughout our relationship and what happened (again, for guests to read if they don't want to dance)
awwww

candy bar!!
candy baaar

the tables will have a white cloth underneath a tea-dyed lace one.  the centre pieces are sunflowers in mismatched jars and we are hoping to have pumpkins as little escort cards.
round table; colour scheme; simple

we'd love to have dozens of xmas light strands looping across the ceiling!
sucker for lights

and maybe some little candles like this:
/  so awesome! we are doing loads of candles instead of reception flowers

PHEW!  what are your thoughts?  we really don't want a fussy wedding nor do we want decor that we can't reuse or give away.

  • I think your ideas are really pretty! The last photo of the candles kind of makes me want to see the first picture with the pumpkins covered in gold/sparkly paint.

  • ooh, thats a good idea!!!
  • <div>I would never think "is this it!?"  It's very adorable and I like your ideas.  I think paper lanterns also dress up an event and since you have a more country themed wedding I think these are very cute and cheap ideas to dress it up</div><div>

  • Thanks for the suggestions, WeddingHelper!
  • I looove these ideas! Your tables will absoltuely look nicely dressed... its amazing how far a nice overlay can go. I love the use of the pumpkins as vases for flowers
  • Love the ideas. I'm getting married next fall and we're looking and doing a lot of pumpkin decorations too. One of the caterers I've spoken to even suggested using pumpkins to hold the dips on our appetizer bar.
  • I love all the photos but I really, really love the flowers and candles and pumpkins and the chalkboard with your love story :)
    Anniversary
  • I like the love story chalkboard!
  • stole the chalkboard idea from pinterest!
  • I'm getting married this November, and using a fair amount of pumpkins. I've seen the candle idea, which I love, and also the planter. Here are a few of my inspiration pics, hope this helps:

I'm making these and putting them across the front porch of my venue

I think the monogram or initial pumpkin is really cute, and mums come in all colors so it'd be pretty easy.

You already have something like this, I think these are made with foam pumpkins, but they're still really nice.
