King's Tables?

My finance doesn't want to do traditional round tables at our reception, so we are planning 4-5 long tables for 100-125 guests. I like the look of King's tables, but I'm curious about how others are making them work. Where are you putting your dance floor? Do you have "hosts" for each table (your parents, his parents, etc.)

Re: King's Tables?

  • I guess that would really depend on your reception site and how big the room is. I can't say that I have been to a wedding with king tables so I am not quite sure how it works with hosting. You could talk to your venue and see what they say!

I could see it looking like

    DJ                         DANCE FLOOR
    BOOTH

    K               K               K
    I                 I                I
    N               N              N
    G              G              G
    T               T               T
    A               A              A
    B               B              B
    L               L               L
    E               E               E

I don't think your tables need hosts, but you probably will want to assign actual seats and not tables in this scenario.

  • That sounds like a good idea, however your guest may not want to sit directly infront of another guest.

Why? That's how everyone sits at dinner parties and holidays.

That's actually one of the reasons we like long tables. We think it will foster more intimacy not to have to shout across a round table.

[QUOTE]We had long rectangular tables like you are describing.  You'll need more than 3 or 4 though for that many people. It simply becomes too cumbersome walking all the way around them once they get past a certain length, so it helps to put a 'break' in the middle of them so that people have more paths to get to and from their seat. We did seating for 140 guests, and if I remember correctly, it worked out to 6 sets, each with the front talbes being two 8ft tables end to end and the rear set being 8ft and a 12 ft table each, placed end to end.  We didn't have a dance floor, but ours were two rows of three sets of tables each, with the food and drinks along one wall and the cake table at the end (where aragx's example has the DJ booth and dance floor).  We did not do assigned seating at all, because we had extra seating built in to keep anyone from being separated.

I see your point about breaking up the length. Even if we don't assign individual seats, I think we will need to assign tables. We have a few relatives we need to keep separated, lol!
