Fogscreen Entrance- Amazing or not worth it?

So I found a place that rents these new things, fogscreens they are called. (Disneyland has one at the entrace to Pirates). I am thinking about renting one with a picture of the two of us for our reception so we can walk through it at the wedding reception for our entrance, and then afterwards have it do a scrolling of photos. It seems really neat, and is all water and you can walk through it and everything. They are asking two thousand. I have the funds, just not sure if it would be as cool as I am envisioning or not. Has anyone heard of using these or done it themselves? Thoughts? Thanks for any input!
I put a link at the bottom showing what they look like and a picture done at a wedding reception

Re: Fogscreen Entrance- Amazing or not worth it?

  • I can picture that being really cool or really creepy. I think if you were to do it, you should just have colored lights shining on it rather than a picture of you two. The picture thing will make it kitschy and kind of creepy, I think, but doing a simple light display over it would make much more of a statement.

[QUOTE]I think it is silly and theatrical.  I vote no.

Maybe. Does it fit the feel of your wedding? If so, I'd do it without the picture, just the waterfall effect.

  • I think it has to fit the overall feel of your wedding. I also think you would need someone familiar with the product to operate it. I wouldn't just rely on it working on its' own. Even though it is cool, I'd vote no.
  • Cheesy

  • Ugh, I can think of so many things I would have rather done with an extra $2K.  The entrance to the reception is literally seconds.  I think in the end you would be like, yeah, could have spent that money better elsewhere.
  • Also, that stuff smells to the high heavens.  I would skip it.
  • ^Agreed!! In high school I was on crew for spring musical production of Les Mis, and they wouldn't use the fog machines during rehearsals because it stank up the theater.

Also, I assume it's like the part of Pirates ride where they project Davy Jones' face as you go under it?  If so... I'd call that creepy.  Theatrical and cheesy? Yes. But also creepy.
  • I agree with pp. I would spend it on better stuff instead of a 30 second intro. Fog machines remind me of haunted houses.
  • Some of the chemicals used in certain fog machines have been known to give sensitive people diarrhea.  I just thought I'd warn you in case you were thinking of using it in an enclosed space.

Granted, it takes prolonged exposure and I believe it's ok if they are using a water based solution, it's something to consider.

I read $2k somewhere?  That's a lot of money.  Though I think it sounds like a cute idea, not 2k cute.
