non-floral, non-candle centerpiece ideas

Our wedding is in the morning and we are serving brunch.  We were planning on having baskets of pastries on the tables when guests sit down.  Since its early in the day I don't really want to do candles, and I know I don't want to do flowers.  So I am stuck thinking of something to do that wouldn't conflict with the basket on the table...any ideas?

  • Why not just line the baskets with lovely, colorful cloth napkins and make the pastry-filled baskets your centerpieces?
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I like the PP's suggestion of dressed-up pastry baskets, but maybe you could add something to it?  For example, we didn't do floral arrangements on the tables for my daughter and son-in-law's reception--but part of what we did do was sprinkle very pretty, very colorful paper flowers from Michael's across the runner...they were called "Got Flowers" and come in a little milk-bottle type container, and are available in a bunch of different colors.  Or, add bowls or vases of fruit--either mixed, or a different on at each table (like a hurricane vase with lemons at one table, limes a another, oranges at a third, etc.)
  • you could do a fruit theme:

Fruit goes very well for a daytime theme, especially if you're not doing candles.

  • How about a pretty bucket filled with ice and different juices to drink?
  • Instead of having a big cake, my FI and I are having a small cake for us, and cupcakes for the rest of the guests. We are putting the cupcakes on pedestal cake plates in the center of the tables so that they double as a decorative center piece!

  • PomLove on esty. I'm using her regular poms to hang from the ceiling, but she also has poms on stems that look really cute as centerpeices.
