For the marrieds: what would you do differently if you could?

In hindsight, what things would you change if you had the power to? Is it just small details or were there large things that you wish could be done over?

I would have had a videographer, at least for the ceremony.

I would have allowed more time to get ready so I could have gotten more candid shots with my BMs, they could have been in my getting dressed shots, etc.  Instead, they were getting ready, while I went to the reveal.

I would have insisted we take our formals elsewhere.  We took them in the hotel bar and they didn't come out like I wanted really.

Other than that, it was perfect.

Things I would do exactly the same:
Hired the same (higher end) photographer and DJ--this is money well spent
The reveal--such a wonderful moment and made the stress just melt away
The private last dance with my husband--probably our favorite moment of all
  • The only thing I would've changed was our limo company.  They were great before the wedding but dropped the ball on the shuttle service, despite being confirmed multiple times by my DOC.

There was really no indication that there would be any problems but given the second chance, I'd go with another company.
  • We had two photographers and I wish I would have asked one of them to photograph our guests.  The reception hall had a great fireplace that we took a few pictures in front of.  In retrospect, I wish I had asked our guests to feel free to come up to have their pictures taken (with or without us).  There were quite a few guests whose pictures were not taken at all and I regret that.

I also would have paid someone to run our iPod and do the announcements.  I loved using the iPod instead of having a DJ, but our friend who said he would do it for us decided that he wanted to leave before even the cake cutting!

Lastly, I would have had more pictures taken of my Grandma.  I only have a few and none are just of the two of us.

Other than that, I loved every part of our wedding day.

  • Will you explain how the private last dance worked? I like the sound of that, but am not  sure about the details
  • We had a last dance for the guests--the DJ announced that it would be the last dance of the night.  Then the DJ announced that everyone was to exit the ballroom to line up for our exit.  While he was coordinating that, my husband and I had a last dance on the dance floor by ourselves (our photographer was there and took pictures however--there are some in my bio).  This is done all the time where I live.  We loved it!

  • I haven't gotten the pro-pics back, so I don't know if there's other "regrets", but I definitely already wish I'd gotten pics of my bouquet and the other flowers. My florist did an amazing job and the bouquets were absolutely stunning, so I wish I'd had them photographed.

Also, I already wish I'd gotten a videographer for at least the ceremony and the begining of the reception (First dance, toasts, etc), just so we could watch it again on anniversaries or something. But the only reason we didn't hire one is because we just couldn't afford it, so I don't think there was really a way around that.

Otherwise, I have no regrets. I had an absolutely perfect day. I loved my vendors and how everything turned out.

  • I would have declined MIL's offer to host the welcome party.  I wound up with a party I hated every minute of.  Unfortunately she was one of those that decided how she was going to spend her money with zero consideration of what the bride and groom wanted and it ruined any chance of me having a relationship with her going forward.
