Wedding Theme Question

My fiancée and I are getting married at an old mansion in Hanover PA. It is a very classy place and the house is decorated with antique furniture, etc.

My question is this: We wanted to do a country themed wedding, but I don't think the mansion would go well with it.  Should we stick with what we want, or does anyone have a better theme?

Re: Wedding Theme Question

  • Yeah, I don't think that's going to quite work.  If you wanted to do a country theme, then you should perhaps look into a barn or something of the like that's a bit more rustic.

Also, wedding's don't really need a "theme".  I'm sure the colors you have already would work fine. :)

  • I usually tell people not to worry so much about "theme", but I must admit that it would be jarring to walk into a lovely mansion and see hay bales and country barn type decor.

I'd change one or the other:  change the theme or change the venue.  Certainly it's easier to change the "theme".  You don't really need one anyway.  The theme is "We're getting married!"

Choose a color palette that you like and call it done.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • I would say that no matter how you look at it, country and mansion just don't fit together, unless your idea of country is a southern plantation and your name is Scarlet O'Hara. So, I would drop the country idea for the wedding reception. However, you could have a country themed rehearsal dinner or engagement/bridal/stag&doe etc. shower. For a mansion, think more Victorian or Regency. Things like damask, sillouettes, and lace work really well.

But, you should have the wedding of your dreams. If you really want country, go for country.
  • If your heart is set on country themed, do it. This isn't a design-showcase, its' your wedding.
