  • What colors do you like?
  • Really.  This isn't rocket science.  What color do you like?  What color does your FI like?  Go to a Lowe's store and stand in front of the paint sample cards, and find colors you like.  This is so not a difficult decision.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • The most recent issue of Brides magazine has some good pointers about color.  There are three questions that they say to ask:  What's your favorite color?  What does your site look like?  Do you have a flower in mind?  (They also say you should consider the season, but I don't think that's strictly necessary.)

Just start looking at pictures of wedding stuff and see what colors you're drawn to.  If you Google "wedding inspiration boards," you'll see tons of examples of color combinations.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Did you even make plans for a definite date yet? Meaning, did you book a ceremony site and reception hall?

If not, then THOSE should be your primary concerns right now. Not colors. Those things will help set the formality and tone of your wedding. Plus, if you haven't done those things yet, your date might not even be in August 2011. The season and the colors of your venues don't HAVE to dictate the colors you use, but some people choose to use them as inspiration.

Use colors you and your FI like. Ask your FI for ideas if you are unsure. Or use all neutral colors - black and white, champagne, silver, gold. Or use a spectrum of colors ... jewel tones (deep purples, ruby red, sapphire blue), shades of one color (baby blue, royal blue, aqua), peacock colors (green, purple, blue, gold), neutral main colors with rainbow accents (maybe black BM dresses but their flowers are each a different color), etc.

Like aerin said, look in magazines and online for sample pallettes. And like trix said, don't sweat over something so simple as colors. Especially when you're more than a year out.
