Parents Dance????

My  Fi and I are throwing around an idea for our parents at the reception. This last year our parents have been a huge help to us and supporting us in tough times. I was thinking about doing a special dance after the father daughter mother son dance(these will be separate dances) where our parents can dance to "Remember When" by Alan Jackson, to show how thankful we are to have such supportive parents and how much we appreciate them.

we wouldnt tell them about it, just have the dj announce them to come to the dance floor or something?? Have you seen this done before or does it pull away from "our day"

Any input would be great! :)

Re: Parents Dance????

  • I wouldn't be worried about anything like this "stealing your thunder," which is a silly concern in general, IMO.

I would be more worried that your parents would not like to be put on the spot like this (you know whether or not your parents would be ok with this) and that it will be boring for your guests to have so many dances that they just watch.  We barely had time to do the father/daugther, mother/son dances because we did not want to interrupt open dancing.

I think a better way to honor your parents would be to thank them if you are giving a speech.  My parents gave the welcome toast at our reception, and they were announced from their seats (along with DH's parents) after DH and I walked in to the reception.
  • Spotlight dances are pretty dull for your guests so I would keep that in mind in addition to jessica's point that they might not like the surprise aspect so much.

  • My parents would absolutely hate this.  But, only you know your parents.

Also, as a guest, the "special" dances are boring to sit through.  I think the fewer the better.

I coudn't agree more.  Maybe you could dedicate the song, but encourage open dancing...
