XP: Suggestions wanted please

By the time we get hitched all our friends (with the exception of 1 couple and Fi's 2 young cousins) will already be married.  Nearly all of our guests are older and so we have opted not to do the garter/bouquet toss.... but for some reason I can't get the thought out of my head.   I think it could still be fun, if executed in a "different" way....

A friend of mine suggested that if we do decide to do it to have everyone (or whomever wants) involved and the "winners" get a lottery ticket(s).

Can anyone else think of another suggestion and perhaps some fun get up and dance music to coincide? Thanks!!

  • How about an anniversary dance?  You get all the married couples who want to participate to come out and dance, and the DJ slowly narrows to the longest married couple.  (e.g., everyone who has been married less than one day, leave the floor; everyone married less than one year, leave the floor; etc.)

Maybe my post didnt make sense...What I meant was a song or idea to go with the bouquet/garter toss that will get EVERYONE to join..not just single people (since there won't be any)

  • There were very few single people at my daughter's wedding so they did the anniversary dance with the oldest married couple "winning" the bouquet and garter.  They then offered advice on how to have a long marriage to the newlyweds.  It was rather sweet.
  • Personally, I can't stand the bouquet and garter toss. Always hated it when I was single and rarely participated (and when I did it was humiliating). Therefore I will not be doing this at my reception. But that's just me...

Do what you want. I think the anniversary dance that nafallon described above is a much better idea, especially if the majority of your circle is married.

    Anniversary
  • i'll be frank. the bouquet toss and garter thing make me want to slit my wrists when there are single people there-that's the point really.

if there wont be any single people skip it and do something entirely different. the anniversary dance is a great idea-we did that at our wedding.

  • Thank you everyone for your suggestions!!
