Sparklers.... Yes? No?

Hi! I was thinking of send off ideas.... a friend of mine can get me a deal on a bunch of 36 inch gold sparklers that burn for 4 minutes. I have a few concerns... one HUGE one is how the heck are we going to light 150 sparklers?!  :)

Opinions and experiences would be appreciated! :)

Thanks!!

Re: Sparklers.... Yes? No?

  • My venue wouldn't allow us to use sparklers because it's too much of a liability.  My photographer was happy to hear that because a kid at one of the weddings he was working stood a little too close to him while he was taking pictures and burned a huge hole in his shirt.

  • I thought sparklers would be a cute thing to do! Just allow someone to pass out the sparklers and everyone can light off of someone elses sparkler! Just do find out, if you are at a venue, if it would be okay to do! For some reason my venue has had problems with people putting live fish in table settings during receptions!

But some other ideas for you are bubbles, bird seeds, flower petals, poppers...maybe even go with the old regular "send off" by tossing the bouquet!

  •  I used a lot of exclamations in that response hahaha.

  • I always use a ton of exclamations!! No judgemnets. :)

I think they would be really pretty... but I think the whole burning off a shirt thing makes me a bit nervous.

  • I was just looking at sparklers yesterday!  I am checking with my venue now to see if they allow them, but I do know I won't be using 36-inch ones.  I think that four minutes is a LONG time for them to burn, especially since they light quickly (especially off of other sparklers) and that all that time and the huge long sticks waving around is more of a risk to clothes.  I think we're going to do 10-inch ones and have extras so that if anyone's burn through too fast, they can relight.  We're having about 100 people so I think if they get sort of lined up before lighting, it should be easy enough (bonus, the 10-inch ones are priced so that even with lots of extras, it's still more affordable than 36' from where I looked).

I looked at /www.sparklersonline.com and was going to package them with personalized matchbooks (maybe from the knot store).  Anyone have any other vendor ideas?
  • we're doing sparklers and as our favors we're doing personalized matches! It's on my dad's land so we have no limits of what we can do! :) I think there's nothing prettier than a sparkler send off even though i think it's an idea many use.. but there's not TOO many idea's! :)
  • I do not think sparklers are a good think. At my friends wedding last year, we lined up on either side with lit sparklers as they were leaving. I happened to get burned on my chest from a spark of the neighbors. I still have small scars!

That means those sparklers are 3 feet long which seems crazy big to me.

I agree it's pretty, but you would probably be better off with normal sized sparklers.
  • sparklers was an idea i had for my wedding as well. In order to get them all light,  i was going to go to a wholesale place to buy a boxes of lighters and pass them out with the sparklers. maybe even dress the lighters up a little by adding some type of label on  them up. but i too have to check with the venue to see if sparklers are allowed.

  • Do a trial run, and be in an open area.  It creates A LOT of smoke.  Really bad for pictures.  Also, the sparks can burn anyone in the area.
