Poll: Invites

Hey Knotties, I'll be posting a few polls on your board (and others) for the magazine. These are about DIY. They are not on the actual DIY board because I think that the answers would be almost 100% yes. Thanks for answering. KA

We did DIY using a kit from Michael's.  I got invites exactly how I wanted them ($375 for 100 if I had purchased outright) for only $70. for all of them.

  • I gave it a whirl but my DIY invites looked like something out of second grade art class.  So I got an Etsy seller to create something that matched my vision.

  • Unless you are a very patient, creative person, you should not be doing your own invites. It is very apparant the difference more often than not. That being said, I have seen gorgeous DIY invites, especially on my local. Know yourself.
  • I put other.  I had an etsy designer design them and send them to me in a pdf, then I just cut them out and assembled them
  • I am very lucky in the my FI is a very talented graphic designer. (It's his job) So he has created these super cool..funky..perfectly us invitations. I need to post pics of them soon.
  • we did vistaprint for our invites.. I love they way they turned out and they were so cheap. $100 for 200 of them! We didn't need 200 but they come in odd numbers and I didn't think about going back and making 2 purchases (one for 100 invites and one for 25 invites).. this price was for invites and response cards which both included envelopes
  • I designed our invitations and had them printed professionally. But I did DIY, completely, the pocket folder they are in.
  • To go with our 'Rocktober' theme, I am designing concert-poster-style invites, and then we'll probably get them vistaprinted.
  • I had originally planned to DIY our invites but we eventually decided against it.  I think that they would have turned out great, but in the end they didn't end up being the right decision for us. We are just too busy right now to spend the time necessary to make them look right.

I think DIY invitations are a great idea if you have the time and resources to do them.  We are doing other DIY items for the wedding.
  • I am debating whether to order from Vista Print or get supplies from Cards and Pockets, but we are definitely deesigning them ourselves. FI is good at that stuff. I designed the STDs from Vistaprint, and they are coming our pretty good. Almost ready to order.. and really cheap!

  • I am and to be honest, I kind of wish I hadn't now.  It's becoming a pain in the ass and I think just as expensive as having them professionally done.

  • I had someone design our invitaitons for us, but we're doing all the printing and assembling.  I'm also doing the calligraphy on our envelopes.

  • I'm doing the same thing for the invites as I am for the table numbers. We're having a music themed wedding so for the wording I'm using the CBGB red font with a heart symbol made up of a joint treble and bass clef. Then I'm attaching the invite to sheet music paper with red ribbon. It's easy and really pretty I wish I had pictures now, maybe soon! If you have a friend who knows how to use photoshop you can most likely save tons of money!
  • I completely DIY-ed my invites (and map, repsonse card and rehearsal dinner invite) spending probably $130 for materials (40 invites). It definitely took a lot of time and energy, but I was much happier in the end being able to customize everything to my theme (and that I didn't spend $500, which is what I saw everywhere for what I wanted).

  • I didn't start out intending to DIY my invites (PIB), but the more I got into planning, the more I realized that I wanted everything to fit together perfectly with the style and graphics that I'd created, and I was unable to find any invites that fit what I envisioned.  I ordered my blank supplies then designed and printed everything myself.  Turned out wonderfully and I'm so glad I did them DIY, everyone loved them personal touch!
  • I have designed and created everything for all stationery for our wedding.  I loved every aspect of it.  The pocket folds for our invitations will be bought because it is actually cheaper to buy them for me.  But everything that is going into them, and the envelopes are all DIY.

  • I am most definitely not creative enough to DIY, but I am going to buy them at Michael's and print & assemble myself.  Or I might even take them somewhere to get printed just to make sure they don't look "cheap."  They will be cheap.  Lol.  I am signed up for Michael's e-mail coupons, and I get a 40% off one item coupon probably once a week.  I am buying one pack with every coupon and saving even more!  Yay!!

I keep you with me in my heart, you make it easier when life gets hard.
  • I couldn't find anything I liked (or even wanted to show to my fiance) so I bought some cardstock and played around for a few days. I came up with a prototype and am planning only small changes when I actually do make them.
  • I ordered our invites through Costco.  They have beautiful invites and RSVP cards for 25% off retail prices.  I ordered samples prior to purchasing and they were beautiful.  It's definitely a good option.
  • My fiance and I are major crafters, and he's a motion graphics editor so designing invites (with the help of 1 talented graphics designer friend) is his job.  Printing them will be "our" job- we have a 4 color screen press, I usually do things like monogram tote bags or t-shirts but invites will be even easier!
